Family History Database

I have published some of the information in my database on the pages called from this one. At some future point I will start using a database on this site.
The search engine (on the home page) can be used to find particular names or individuals.

The information available now consists of:

•  Baptism Data - Entries extracted from baptism registers for England.
•  Burial Data - Entries extracted from burial registers for England.
•  Census Data - Entries extracted from census returns for England.
•  Historical Articles - Information drawn from apprenticeship records, newspapers, parish registers and quarter session records.
•  Marriage Data - Entries extracted from marriage registers for England.
•  Monumental Inscriptions - From churchyards in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.
•  Wills - Details of more than 1,000 beneficiaries named in over 125 wills and administrations mostly relating to Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.

Genealogical Library

I started to build a genealogical library several years ago mainly because I found that I needed to read records repetitively as my research progressed. The library, which is expanded on a regular basis, contains rare books (mostly with very limited print runs) as well as current products from Family History Societies and organisations such as Archive CD Books, S&N Genealogy Supplies, the Society of Genealogists, Stepping Stones and TrueFlare.

I also try to help at fairs attended by the Suffolk FHS as well as members of 4 Rootsweb mailing lists:

• ENG-SFK-BABERGH-COSFORD - for the central-southern area of Suffolk.
• ENG-SFK-IPSWICH - for the Ipswich area of Suffolk.
• ENG-KENT-NWKFHS - for members of the North West Kent Family History Society.
• ENG-SFK-STOWMARKET - for the Stowmarket area of Suffolk.

Because I work away from home for most of the time, I am unable to offer a general look-up service.

Glossary

In the library listings, the column 'Category' identifies what type of information the publication contains.
The categories and their meanings are:

• Census: copies or transcripts of censuses.
• Directory: listings of inhabitants. Early directories tend only to give details of the wealthier inhabitants.
• Guide: books describing the location of records and what they contain.
• History: topograpihical publications containing very limited genealogical information.
• Index - Census: census indices compiled by family history societies.
• Index - Data: indices to censuses, surveys, etc., containing genealogical information.
• Index - Records: indices to and/or listings of records. This category does not contain any genealogical information.
• Index - Registers: indices to registers containing genealogical information.
• Index - Wills: calendars of wills and/or administrations.
• Maps: copies of old maps.
• Newspapers: copies of old newspapers.
• Register: copies or transcripts of Parish or non-conformist church records.
• Survey: publications containing varying amounts of genealogical information.
• Wills: transcripts of wills.
