Note 3: 12/07/1850 - Conviction for Burglary with Violence at the Summer Assizes

Charles Baker was convicted at the Hertford Summer Assizes for the crime of Burglary with Violence (see this page for the report of the trial in the Hertford Mercury and Reformer) and sentenced to be transported for 10 years. It seems that Hertfordshire had already replaced transportation with prison sentences since Charles is to be found in Leeds Borough Gaol on the 1851 census, and is back living in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire by the time of the 1861 census (07/04/1861).
